I walk on a road lush with dreams,
a road of forgotten and veiled dreams,
sometimes slowly, sometimes gaily,
sometimes lost, sometimes profound,
I walk a road of unknown mysteries,
fervently finding my way through the endless path.....

Media and the mind games

"In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind." -Edward L. Bernays

The world today might appear to be crazily connected and extremely well informed but thats just the tip of an iceberg. Reality is diametrically opposite to it.

In this age of social media, where it takes seconds for a single piece of information to go viral, all of us are happily surviving in the pseudo shield of being 'well unformed' 'vigilant' and 'updated' with our times.
We log in to our facebooks, scroll our twitter accounts and open whats app on our phones and find that there is so much to read and know.
One by one, we blindly gulp down all the
news buzzing on our feed-lines and time-lines.
Of Course, if its shared on the world wide web, it has to be right and anyhow, who on earth has the time to find out. The news appears sizzling and sensational enough, it ought to be shared and passed on. Right?

No matter the source, if the news is madly being circulated, we just tend to read the most popular and juiciest bits and jump in the judgemental bandwagon.
Speculating and discussing as if we were the experts of that particular subject.

Amazing isn't it?

What we fail to realise is the heart of the matter.
'What is the source if the news'?
'Has it been thoroughly researched before being written'?
'Does it serve any sort of propaganda'?
'Is this piece of information complete or just parts of it'?

The lure of sharing and getting unnecessary appreciation has triumphed our basic reasoning and intellect.

But have you ever thought as to who really triumphs? Who really manages to create a false impact on you and get into a win-win situation always?
It is none other than the media.

Media has long been playing mind games with us. It has never been hidden that through the media, political parties and their dirty propagandas tend to widely thrive not just in our talks but somewhere deep into the minds too.

The arrival of social networking and micro-blogging has served media just the right board to play with our minds.
They can easily circulate any half true or at times completely false information and let people relate to it, accept it and even spread it.
Its very to similar to how back in school and college days, one of those innocent and naive looking girls would be easily able to sweet talk and spread. The others girls would easily be preyed into transferring her half-baked rumour from ear to ear leading to incessant gossips.
The interesting part about all of it is, there never exists even an iota of truth and whatever fragments are mistakenly present, get lost in the mist of secret air too!

We fail to realise what a fool we are making of ourselves while reading, believing and then proudly sharing tonnes of false news created tactfully by the media each day.
Not even giving a thought to the fact that how bad an impact such ignorant actions will create on the generations to come.

Every passing day, we continue to ease the work of media. For the extent of their reach continues to grow each day and the amount of effort they require to do so is minimal.

All media needs is to create a story build in sensationalism, with a little spice, topping it with religious hullabaloo and voila! We are all set to attack and gulp it down.
Letting it impact us and those around us.

Its high time we give a thought to what are cruel and cunning game media is playing.
They say you can't fool all people all the time but due to our naiveness media is actually accomplishing just them.

Lets open our eyes dear friends, lets reject that what is wrong. Lets strive to find the truth and only share that which we are absolutely sure of.
Lets accept and respect transparency.

Quoting Philip G. Zimbardo
"The most dramatic instances of directed behavior change and "mind control" are not the consequence of exotic forms of influence, such as hypnosis, psychotropic drugs, or "brainwashing," but rather the systematic manipulation of the most mundane aspects of human nature over time in confining settings".

Leonardo DiCaprio - the hunk of my dreams!

awesomeness personified!

I was wondering that I so proudly boast my love for Leonardo DiCaprio in every nook and corner of the real and virtual world, be it my blog's about me section (oh! you haven't cared to read it even once? what a shame! minimize this window, open my blog on the other one and READ IT I say and then return back to continue this post!)

back? So you read it! great, lets proceed. So whenever I actually describe myself, I have to blurt out Leo's name some where or the other. That makes me wonder, where should I put his name in my official resume? If you have any idea, be kind and let know pleaseee!

The not so latest 'your Facebook movie' trend ( I know, it flopped) saw my movie featuring Leo more than me. No! not the wall street type Leo. He was a cocaine and 'f'' king in that. In my movie however, he was my prince *blush*

I get more wishes and messages (now whats-apps) on his birthday than I ever got on mine. I mean that's obvious because early in the morning I message people that its my love's birthday (like they care) and some of them are kind enough to reply and some of them are just plain guilty because they had forgotten to wish me on my birthday!

And oh that reminds me that on the Oscar Night (morning in India), my phone buzzed incessantly with Whats apps informing me that Leo lost. Some of them were concerned enough to ask me 'are you fine?'. Oh come onnn! You thought that I am so blinded by louuveee that I expected a 'drug addict wolf' of the wall street to win against Mathew Mcconaughy?  (or whichever way you correctly spell his name :/ )
obviously not! And the jury of academy with their feet in their graves would have never let Leo get an Oscar for roles such as these! yes, they are the Alok Nath's of Hollywood;)
So I am a sensible lover you see *sheepish grin*

OK now enough of honesty. I had started writing this post with an intent to praise Leo to the skies or maybe as high as that 'lemon wala drug' took him in wall street or maybe straight to the heavens like he went after titanic, the quick and the dead and Romeo and Juliet!
So please don't bring in Oscars again and again. They are over for this year and Leo and I have moved on. end of discussion.

 *now tone change*

Leonardo DiCaprio is the greatest actor ever born. (what? this is my post and my blog, kindly bear with the lies and superlatives)
A heart throb, most amazing, astonishing, astounding, awesome, fabulous, miraculous, prodigious, stunning, stupendous, wonderful, unbelievable, extraordinary, phenomenal, sensational, spectacular, notable, outstanding, remarkable; impressive, smashing, mind-blowing + boggling + blinding (wait! does such a word even exist? I guess not but then love blinds every organ of the body so I will keep it) attractive, enchanting, enthralling actor ever!

What are you marveling at now, Leo's attributes or my vocabulary? whatever it be, both have been created by me :P

I have a million and more reasons why I completely and madly love Di Caprio. But PDA is so not my kinda thing! which is way I will just share 5 reasons (that may interest you too or if they don't, ACT interested at least on my blog) down here. So here we go

1. He played the character of Jack Dawson with such panache that absolutely no one could or would EVER be able to surpass! I mean, the love in his eyes, 'you jump,I jump' and the way he sacrifices his plank for that stupid, confused girl. You tell me, will you sacrifice your life if you were in place of him? And that too for Kate Winslet? Although she considers him the best actor of his generation but still?!

2. Apart from the acting talent and the skill of changing girl friends once in a week month year, he has been an active wildlife and nature conservationist.

3. I really love him for saying things like "I prefer ordinary girls - you know, college students, waitresses, that sort of thing. Most of the girls I go out with are just good friends. Just because I go out to the cinema with a girl, it doesn't mean we are dating." keeps my hope so much alive! :D

4. The academy has been constantly disappointing him and his fans but still he puts up with a brave face and keeps coming up with such wonderful movies consistently and that too of the kinds which Academy would never approve of (remember I told you about the Alok Nath's? ).
This clearly show, he is amazingly talented and not 'dying' or 'acting' for Oscars.

5. His voice- I am madly in love with his voice. It just keeps ringing and murmuring in my ears.

And if you aren't convinced yet then I present to you a song written by a Dutch- girl band K3 called 'Leonardo DiCaprio I love you'. Read the translation here

There can't be a better tribute of love to this great actor. And the second best tribute? well you just read it :P

Social networking- our lives

Remember your recent trip to Goa or the get together with old pals last week? Your first kiss where you kissed again and again until the camera accepted it as 'worthy of being shared'? Your kids first birthday or your 15th marriage anniversary? Whats that one thing which remains common on all such occasions?
The one and only, the show stealer (literally!) - thy 'camera' *applause*

Each one of us lives either inside our Facebook and twitter profiles today or the phone inbox and whats app messengers. Sharing every gulp of water, every beat of our heart, each step we take and all moves we make has now become a subconscious action or to put it more bluntly, an obsession, a compulsion!

We fail to pay attention to what happens right before our eyes because updating the latest 'nail paint' colour seems more important.
Its been ages that one saw a sunset or a sunrise (rainbows are confined only to books anyways) because tweeting a random PJ is a priority.

But in the vicinity of all these updates flashing out at a lightening speed, a question worth pondering exists. That is - 'WHO REALLY CARES'
Who cares whether you are in Goa or in your bedroom? whether it was your 15th or 25th anniversary? how old is your kid or of what shape was his birthday cake? your nail paint colour..blah...blah!
of course YOU do care and a few, very few others who genuinely are interested in you ( I dare say, your nail paint colour) .

And the next, even more potent issue is - are those real, blissful moments of your life worth only a few 10s or 100s of 'likes' and vague comments like nice, awesome, fab, amazing, love or <3, wow , 'Epic'?
ERR!! I hope not! :/

Then WHY (why for Mark Zuckerberg's sake!) are we so keen on 're-taking' our first kiss, going in for picture perfect make-up, flashing the most camera friendly (fake) smiles instead of 'living' the moment and letting the happiness seep in?

Frankly speaking the concept of facebook appears to me to as nothing but a vast room where each one of us is shouting every single personal detail about themselves, least bothered to hear or pay attention to what others have to say. Why are we then so fascinated to be a part of this selfish and moronic world?

This reminds me of an Urdu couplet by Allama Iqbal

'hai dil ke liye maut machin'on ki hukumat
ehsaas-e-murawwat ko kuchal dete hai alaat'

( Rule of machines is death to our hearts
They are weapons which destroy all feelings and emotions)

Truly, technology is nothing but a double edged sword. It can let you be the master but all the same time it has a power to kill you too. And we all know that such a sword can never rule without harming the master.
have we reached the stage of self destruction or have we not?

Do not Google this...ASK YOURSELF!!
