I walk on a road lush with dreams,
a road of forgotten and veiled dreams,
sometimes slowly, sometimes gaily,
sometimes lost, sometimes profound,
I walk a road of unknown mysteries,
fervently finding my way through the endless path.....

Homoeopathy - Lets dwell deeper!

Sir William Ostler (Father of Modern Medicine) has said -

"No individual has done more good to the medical profession than Samuel Hahnemann (the father of Homeopathy)".

Homoeopathy has been derived from a Greek word 'homeos' meaning similar ( not same) and 'pathos' meaning suffering. So, it is basically treatment on the principle of 'like cures like'.

The root of this principle dates back to Vedic literature and writings of Hippocrates ( who is the father of medicine).
But, it was after many years that Samuel Hanhemann, a German physician while translating a book called 'Cullen's Materia Medica' discovered its efficacy.

Hanhemann read in the Materia Medica that 'cinchona bark could cure intermittent (malaria- like) fevers'. This particular sentence did not convince him much and he did something extraordinary. He took the extract of the medicine himself as a part of experimentation! And to his surprise, within a few days he developed malaria-like symptoms.
This experiment of Hanhemann lead to the birth of homoeopathy. He realized that the same cinchona bark which caused symptoms of malaria in a healthy human ( himself) was responsible for curing it too.

So the popular believes that many people have today that Homoepathy is nothing but a 'magic potion' of sweet pills and stands on 'no scientific principle' is completely wrong.
Time and again when human provings of over 2000 homoeopathic drugs are carried out results are observed and registered.

All over the world, homeopathic clinics and hospitals are curing all kinds of cases. From a simple fever to complex diseases. I do not debate on the fact that homoepathy is the 'quickest' remedy or has 'cure for everything' on earth. That is NOT true. Like any other medical science it too has its limitations and short-comings.

But if prescribed correctly and taken with faith and correct guidance Homoeopathy DOES POSSESS THE POWER TO CURE, by cure I mean ACTUAL CURE and not simply SUPPRESSING A COMPLAINT TO SEE IT RETURNING BACK after a week, a month or an year.

For all those, still in doubt I advice you to - TRY IT ONCE :)

  2. S S,

As per my knowledge Homeopathy reaches out to cure the root cause of any sickness which is what one should look for. This combined with well developed test to find cause of sickness can do wonders.

    Take care

  3. Dear Subtle Scribbler,

Just wanted to know some thing.
Do you know what a placebo effect is? (http://health.howstuffworks.com/medicine/medication/placebo-effect.htm)

What is you opinion on the scientific journals and scientific studies that are published in them for example The most reputable scientific journal LANCET has published a study: Are the clinical effects of homoeopathy placebo effects? Comparative study of placebo-controlled trials of homoeopathy and allopathy by Aijing Shang et al

Do you think that a journal like Lancet can publish ANY study (not just about Homeopathy even about Allopathy) that is unacceptable and the scientific community will keep quiet?
If you think so then you are mistaken.
If you think they publish only studies that have scientific merit then how do you account for the above mentioned study that says Homeopathy cures only as many diseases as would have been cured if the patients were given sugar pills saying it was medicine(placebo effect)?

I suggest you stop writing about this topic if you cannot answer these questions in an honest and mature manner.

You have a talent for writing and putting across your idea... in a fun manner... that article where you described the conversations you have when people come to know about your choice in career... that was a good post... it was entertaining :)

    1. thnk u for ur appreciation:)
      now coming to ur question,
being a science student i do understand that in the world of reasoning and logic, its only proper experimentation that is classified as a proof.

But if you try to look with an unbiased mind,u would see the results homeopathy provides not just on clinical trials conducted but also hundreds of patients who are benefited each day in Indian sub continent itself.

Is it possible to cure a decade old skin disease by itself?
Or do you think its feasible enough that the body will heal various GIT or urinary troubles that persist for years suddenly by something u r referring to 'placebo effect'.

Am sorry but being a vigilant individual I would rather label it as either a mis- judgement or something that still is beyond the arena of human discoveries and laws.

Besides, if you could look on the net inspite of the lack of funds and research infrastructure, experiments have proved the existence of water memory and Nobel laureate Luc montagnier's demonstration of electromagnetic properties of highly-diluted biological samples.
Is it not a proof? Or only LANCET is supposed to be believed?
Pardon me for not being able to convince you thoroughly maybe, but I can only hope that you keep ur spirit of inquiry alive before passing on any judgements. thank you!

    2. Dear Sarah,

I see that you are a person who sees reason and logic need to be the basis for proof. This part of your thinking is correct.

Yet you base your proof on what patients say. My dear I will show you many patients who are about to die who will say they are feeling fine the day before. For example patients who have 90% block in their coronary artery may come for a check up and when asked may say they are feeling fine except some slight pain when climbing stairs. If I give him a sugar tablet and convince him that is the correct treatment and he believes me then he may come back next time and tell me that tablet really worked to make me happy (or to convince himself that he is healthy because he is in denial maybe).

Either way you can see that the patient is not the one to decide if the treatment worked or not. It is the trained doctor who should examine him and do the appropriate test and arrive at a scientific conclusion. Is this mis judgement or beyond the arena of human discoveries?

My spirit of inquiry is alive and I see you have one too. That is why I am pleading with you to not believe anything unless there is a scientific reason for it. Not scientific according to your patient or anyone's opinion or belief. According to a medical scientist who publishes in journals and is ready to provide proof for what they publish like Lancet for example ;)
Thank you for your time and patience :)
      God bless you!

    3. u still cudnt get my point or maybe are too faithful a reader of scientific journals like lancet? :P

Anyhow, I will try once more to provide an explanation.
The principles of Allopathic mode of treatment ( though i doubt it has any) are very different from homeopathic system ( similia similibus curantur).
In homm, v talk abt treating the individual and not the disease. And ur example of coronary heart patient can be an exception. Though if u observe keenly in various diseases u will realize that the same disease manifests in different individuals with alteration.
Like patients with febrile conditions may show chills at different time of the day or difference in the intensities of thirst etc.

Allopathy simply has a single medicine to cater ALL such conditions but in homm different med are given for various alterations at a mental and physical plane.

As for the 'scientific' proves, I personally feel that for a physician no proof can suffice more than the recovery of his patient by the prescribed medicine.

If a scientific experiment or journal has proved the efficacy of say a particular XYZ drug and yet this XYZ drug fails to cure the patient, will you still believe in its efficacy?
All u have to do is reverse the above mentioned case wen you question homeopathy. And I would be interested in knowing your answer! :)

  4. I too endorse your views and this form of medicine has no side effects and very suitable for curing young children:)

    1. It does have side effects but only a very few of the medicines if not given properly :)

  5. I think like any other disciplines of medicine, homeopathy is one of the ways to cure a disease. It works differently. It is based on a different scientific principle than say allopathy or something else.

I have seen its effectiveness myself in my family, and therefore can vouch for it, that this scientific method, in spite of its limitations, works quite fine in many cases.

  6. Each dilution followed by succussion is supposed to increase the remedy's potency. Homeopaths call this process potentization. Dilution usually continues well past the point where none of the original substance remains. Thanks.
