Famous writers and their fantastico works. Part 2

Today I am back with the second part of  this series. To discuss more great works of literature and the outstanding authors. 

My first post mainly catered writers of classics. 

This one will feature more of fiction writers and the newer ones. 

Nonetheless, they too are equally popular and have churned out great pieces of work. 

Again, I would like to mention that the list isn't exhaustive. No where near to it. It is just a mention of mostly my favourite and some other popular ones. 

1)J.K. ROWLING

Whether you are a book lover or not, J.K. Rowling's series named Harry potter is known to almost everyone. 

The series is loved by young and old alike. This lady is a British novelist and became famous with her series of seven books by the name of ‘Harry Potter’. She also came up with an adult novel called ‘The Casual Vacancy’ few years back which received mild success. 

Harry Potter was sold in hundreds of millions and was adapted into a blockbuster film franchise.

2)GILLIAN FLYNN

Best known for her International best seller 'Gone Girl' Gillian Flynn is an American author and television critic for Entertainment Weekly. 

She has written two other novels. One is Sharp object and the other is Dark places. 

For Sharp Object she won the 2007 Ian Fleming Steel Dagger for the best thriller. 

Flynn, grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated at the University of Kansas. 

3)PAULO COELHO

People may criticise him but Paulo Coelho's readers know that he is inspiring and his writings are different than others.

His first book was 'The Pilgrimage' which was his own story in many ways. 

But it was only after his second book called 'The Alchemist' that Paulo shot to fame. 

So much so that the book has roughly sold 35 million copies, and is now the most translated book in the world by any living author.

Since The Alchemist, the author has been giving out a book every two years. 

My favourite works by him are Brida, The Zahir, The Witch of Portobello.

4)STEPHEN KING 

Stephen King is known as the 'king of horror and thriller'. He has been writing novels and neck breaking speed for the past 2 decades and many of his novels have received critical acclaim. 

King's first horror novel, Carrie, was a huge success.

King's book have been adapted into movies time and again and have been applauded. 

Famous novels by him are IT,Salem's Lot,The Shining,The stand and more lately Mercedes Man. 

His books have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide and been adapted into numerous successful films.

He has also penned down several books under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. 

That's all for part two. The list of great writers is such a long one. 

So I guess, I will do one more post for the series.

Favourite Fantastico thriller books

Thrillers have always been my most favourite genre.

No doubt a well written thriller can chill you down the nerves, giving you sleepless nights and horrible nightmares but that itself acts as a potent stimulator for thriller lovers like me. 

However, nothing can be a bigger turn off than a badly written book in the name of a thriller and since I too had my shares of disappointments, I now make sure that I literally read tons of reviews before buying a book under the genre of thriller or horror. 

Yes, I am not this cautious even when buying makeup products:P

I have thinking of writing a post based on thrillers for a long time but I was just adding on to my library and knowledge before plunging in to give expert sort of advice. 

Although I am no expert as of now too but can proudly say that I have read almost all of those hugely popular ones in the genre and of others I have done a detailed research and read long reviews. 

With the assurance that my list may not include ALL the great pieces of thrilling stories( no list is perfect) but you will not regret picking up any of those that I am gonna mention here. 

So, hold your breath and get ready for sleepless nights and paranoid attacks as I raise the curtain for some 'fantastico thrillers' of all times.

1)Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier - 'Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again'

Rebecca is one of the greatest romantic thrillers of all times. This book, its narrative, its story line and the never ending twists had haunted me for a long time after I finished reading this book. 

There have been many adaptations of the book but in my opinion none could do justice to the book. This book has never gone out of print and rightly so.

All thriller lovers must and I repeat it, must read this one! 

2)The Silence of the lambs by Thomas Harris

 This book is creepy, my God!

Dr. Hannibal Lecter is one of the most insightful and unforgettable characters of all times.

The silence of the lambs is a thriller cum horror in a true sense and leaves you quite disturbed in the end. 

The movie adaptation is marvellous too especially Anthony Hopkins as Dr.Hannibal Lecter. 

3)The Girl with the dragon tattoo by Stieg Larsson

I Admit, I did not like the book at first but when the story picked up pace after 40 odd pages it became unputdownable really! 

The narration is what makes up the book so likeable. 

I haven't read the other two books of the trilogy since the reviews didn't appear as promising. 

4)Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn- A lot of people found this book just about average but I do consider it one of the most amazing and differently written thrillers of 

all times. 

Story line revolves around the disappearance of a character called Amy and whether Nick, Amy's husband is involved in the disappearance of his wife or not. 

Book's ending left me feeling extremely angry and helpless for Nick. 

I have also seen the movie adaptation and did not like it much. I feel they have rushed through a lot of scenes.

I think that's pretty much the list. I have read dozens of thrillers but only these four could be a part of my 'fantastico list'.
